What to expect when you join the Aigburth Community Cycle Club

What to expect when you join the Club!

Aigburth Community Cycling Club is a gathering of people of all ages and walks of life who enjoy cycling and exploring new routes in Liverpool and beyond.

This is not a club of dedicated fast riders!

We are a diverse group, with riders of all ages and walks of life from across the Merseyside community.  We are proud to say that we have members from 18 to 80 years old, and an equal balance of men and women on our rides.

We offer regular group rides along routes from 3 miles to 40 miles. You pick the kind of ride that sounds best to you.

Safety is paramount – all the rides are guided by trained leaders, easily visible in hi-vis jackets. Leaders have up-to-date first aid training and carry first aid kits.

We choose routes that include cycle paths and quiet roads, in order to make sure the ride is an enjoyable experience for everyone.  Maps of the routes chosen for each ride are normally within the ride descriptions on the Spond app.

Our rides attract from 8 to 20 people, depending on the route popularity and the day of the week.

You’ll always be with friendly and like-minded people.

If you don’t have your own equipment, we can provide both bicycles to borrow and safety helmets. These are available at all our hubs, you’ll need to arrive 30 mins before the start time so we can sort out a suitable bike for you.

Occasionally some longer rides start from an alternative location such as a train station. We are not able to lend out bicycles and helmets for these rides.

Head to our Rides Schedule to browse the rides, then just log on to Spond and book yourself in on the ride or rides of your choice.

If the ride is fully booked, add yourself to the waiting list – there are almost always a few cancellations before the event.  If you find you cannot attend a ride you booked on to, please let us know by clicking on the ‘Decline’ button on Spond so we can give the place to someone on the waiting list.

There’s no dress code – wear whatever you feel comfortable in, based on the time of year.  Cycling tends to warm you up – layers are good so can adjust as needed.  Something waterproof is useful if there’s a chance of rain.

We also recommend that you bring a spare inner tube with you. That way, should you get a puncture we can help you change it and get back on the move with the group.  Spare inner tubes cost about £4 from Halfords or any decent bike shop.

Besides our regular rides, we also offer courses in cycling safety and bike maintenance.  If you’re a new rider, this will add to your confidence.

If you have your own bike, it’s very helpful to know what you can do yourself and when you need to call for specialist help.

Six members of the Aigburth Community Cycle Club stand together with their bikes in a group, on a pathway somewhere leafy and green in south Liverpool. The group appear to made up of four women and two men. A woman in the centre of the group holds the Aigburth Community Cycle Club banner, showing the Club logo, an image and some text, which is too far away to be legible. Everyone is waving or smiling.
